My mom's cute sewing room with tons of fabric! We always kid her and say "the one who dies with the most fabric wins" and she is on her way!

girls skirt
Mom brought this adorable little skirt that Brittney had sewed so we could get a pattern from it.
so we measured and cut and sewed...
Items needed for a size 6 skirt:
10 inches x 43 inches
(shorten to 7-8 inches for younger ones but keep the width of 43 inches.)
fabric: 6 inches x 26 inches
(shorten to 4-5 inches for younger ones but keep the width of 26 inches)
1/2 to 1 inch elastic for waistband
(measure around the waist and add 1 inch)
we used a 22 inch piece of elastic
trim: large rickrac or ribbon, flower etc...
first take the largest piece of fabric (the bottom of the skirt and pin and iron in pleats so that the skirt top is taken from 43 inches to 26 inches (the same size as the top of the skirt).
We did 3 pleats (both front and back) 1 large pleat3 1/2 inches and 2 smaller pleats 2 inches.
pin & iron.
then sew the right sides together of the top and bottom of the skirt.
hem the bottom of the skirt - turning it under twice. Make the hem approx. 1/2 inch.

sew decorative trim across the top of the skirt; bottom of the skirt, wherever you want it.
Then turn skirt inside out and sew up the side edges. We used one piece of fabric and just had one seam on the side. You could also use 2 pieces of fabric and have 2 side seams to sew. Use which ever is easier for you!
Lastly, sew the elastic together (double sew the inch of spare elastic) so you have a circle.
then lay inside the top of the skirt and fold over twice leaving some room so that you do not sew the elastic to the skirt - you want it loose inside of the pocket you will be sewing. Continue sewing - pulling the elastic as needed as you sew.
our first skirt leaved a little bit to be desired...
it was a bit crooked - just a little
but we finally made 4 cute skirts!
note: in some of our skirts we shortened the bottom of the skirt 3 inches so we could add a 3 inch ruffle. Experiment and have fun!

Gift Bags
Sew here is a cute easy way make your own gift bags. You can make them any size you need. Use: newspaper, magazines, fabric, wrapping paper, etc... use your imagination! Christy made these cute gift bags from a Beatles magazine. They were "thank you" gifts for her baby shower. She sewed 3 edges together with her sewing machine and filled them with assorted cosmetics and sewed the bottoms up after they were filled. Everyone loved them! Mine was Paul McCartney of course.
